‘Doctor Who’ announces Ncuti Gatwa as its new protagonist, the first black actor to play the character

The BBC has just confirmed who is chosen to succeed Jodie Whittaker as the protagonist of the longest-running English series on televisionand, for the first time, they wanted to have a black actor. Ncuti Gatwa (‘Sex Education’) will put himself in the shoes of the beloved Lord of Time.
Gatwa known for playing Eric Effiong in the aforementioned Netflix series, a role for which he won a BAFTA in the Best Actor category; he claims to feel honored, but at the same time he confesses to feeling a lot of respect for the task of playing one of the most iconic characters that science fiction has given us from the small screen.
“There are no words to describe how I feel. A mix of deeply honored, beyond excited and of course a little scared. This role and series mean a lot to many people around the world.including myself, and each of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care. I’ll do my best to do the same“.

The ‘Doctor Who’ fandom was already in the clouds after the return of Russell T. Davies as showrunner, filmmaker who has taken the reins again hitting a turn worthy of being celebrated. “The future is here and it’s Ncuti!
