On the occasion of World Environment Day celebrated today, the Byte TI magazine held a meeting entitled “Sustainable ICT Departments” last Friday, attended by representatives of Solaria, Llorente y Cuenta, the Government of Navarra, Grupo la Plana, Acer Computers and Epson, to talk about the importance of sustainability in ICT Departments.
And the fact is that companies are beginning to have sustainability as one of their pillars when it comes to choosing the technologies they need to implement and, in the digitization process that all of them are carrying out, they know that this will not be possible in an environment that is not sustainable. For this reason, sustainability is becoming an important element in the decision-making of companies when purchasing any ICT product, solution or service. In fact, one of the characteristics of the Next Generation EU funds combines two elements: digitization and sustainability.
The establishment of strategies based on sustainability will make it possible to have a more sustainable economy, more decarbonized and, above all, more efficient, productive and with lower costs. And technology plays a fundamental role in sections such as gas emissions, the transformation of traditional industry into Industry 4.0, the commitment to sustainable mobility, the promotion of teleworking or the recycling of technological waste are just some of the aspects that digitalization can favor.
All this commitment of the sector to greater sustainability brings innumerable advantages for companies that translates into a notable increase in productivity, a reduction in costs derived from energy consumption, a lower emission of greenhouse gases thanks to the increase in teleworking and the use of renewable energies and, not least, a better valuation as a brand.
