Twitter has finally announced that its message editing button is already in testing. After that period, “in the next few weeks”, it will only be accessible to Twitter subscribers in a single country, at first. But all users will now be able to see edited tweets. The request to establish an edit button is one of the oldest requests from Twitter users. And despite the concession to its users, the company has put several limitations so that the function is not used maliciously.
if you see an edited Tweet it’s because we’re testing the edit button

Edits can only be made for 30 minutes and a limited number of times. The editing history will be available to check what has been changed in each tweet. The tool is designed to correct typos and add some oversight. But it is not difficult to imagine malicious uses: someone viralizes a false or exaggerated tweet so that, once thousands of users have already seen it, edit it and leave it in something more prudent or bland.
In the blog where he announces the novelty, the company has posted a screenshot of an edited tweet. The link where you can see the history has a small emoji and is not very prominent. It remains to be seen how many people will click or even notice it.
“Like any new feature, we’re testing it with a small group to help us incorporate feedback as we identify and resolve potential issues. This includes how people can misuse the feature. You can never be too careful,” the company writes.
