Netflix announces the cancellation of another of its series. In July 2020, ‘El club de las canguro (The Baby-Sitters Club)’ arrived on the streaming platformadaptation of the series of novels written by Ann M. Martin that focused on seven friends who decide to start a babysitting business in the small town of Stoneybrook, Connecticut.
The series received a great reception from critics and managed to build a loyal fan base. However, in October of last year they premiered the second season and the chapters only managed to sneak into the ten most watched series in the ranking for one week, and it was in ninth position. It has not met Netflix’s expectations, so it has decided to cancel it after only 18 episodes divided into two seasons..
So, we have to say goodbye to Kristy (Sophie Grace), Claudia (Momona Tamada), Stacey (Shay Rudolph), Mary Anne (Malia Baker), Dawn (Xochitl Gomez and Kyndra Sanchez), Jessi (Anais Lee) and Mallory (Vivian Watson), the protagonists of the series created by Rachel Shukert. At least it has served to introduce Gomez, who will have her big MCU debut in May as America Chavez. in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’.
The latest Netflix cancellations
The creator of the series says goodbye with this message: “I’ve wanted to be a part of the world that Ann M. Martin created since I was 7 years old and for two incredible seasons I’ve been able to do that. It’s been a dream come true. While it breaks my heart that I won’t be able to return to Stoneybrook for another 20 seasons, I am so proud of the incredible series our amazing cast and crew have created and the way it has brought joy and comfort when so many more needed it.“. ‘The babysitter club’ joins other series canceled this year by Netflix such as ‘Gentefied’, ‘Another life’ or ‘Cooking with Paris’.
