A new character is about to arrive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Moon Knight will debut on Disney+ on March 30, the series in which Oscar Isaac becomes Marc Spector, a man with dissociative identity disorder who becomes the envoy on Earth of an Egyptian god. The Jeremy Slater-created series promises to be an exciting new chapter in the Phase 4 franchise, but we’d better approach it with the right expectations.
Grant Curtis, producer of ‘Moon Knight’, has explained (via Comic Book) that the Serie “He will have no connection to the current MCU. He’s a new character, and he’s embarking on a new adventure.”. This is a series created to introduce the character of Marc Spector, so we should not expect cameos or elements from other movies or series yet. “There are multiple aspects of ‘Moon Knight’ that have us internally excited at Marvel Studios. But one of the unique aspects of this character is that it takes Marvel Studios back to the roots of Iron Man and Tony Stark. That was a character that was obviously built from scratch, and it’s the same with Marc Spector.” Curtis explains.
Really, presenting Marc Spector is quite a challenge because not only do you have to explain all the aspects of his supernatural side – which have “absolutely embraced” in Marvel -, like his powers and his relationship with Khonshu, the Egyptian god who saves him, but we will also have to get acquainted with its main personalities. In fact, before meeting Marc we will meet Steven Grant, an employee of a museum gift shop, and who believes he suffers from memory loss without being aware of what is really happening to him.
‘Fight Club’ mixed with ‘Indiana Jones’
In a featurette released a few days ago by Marvel, Oscar Isaac describes the series as “a whole character study” what “he takes the issue of mental health very seriously”. May Calamawy, who plays Layla, compares her to “‘Fight Club’ mixed with ‘Indiana Jones'” and ensures that it is “pretty dark”. On March 30th we will meet Steven/Marc/Moon Knight with the series debut on Disney+.
