Microsoft Edge: The end of Internet Explorer has come. And now that? | Technology

This August 16, Internet Explorer would have been 27 years old. However, as Microsoft announced a little over a year ago, the young Microsoft Edge browser is going to replace it before its predecessor can celebrate another anniversary. Today, June 15, the company is preparing to withdraw the latest version of the Internet Explorer application and permanently stop supporting it, which means that it will no longer be incorporated into new devices nor will it receive security patches or updates. But this does not mean that web pages and platforms that work through this browser will not be able to continue doing so: the key is to use Internet Explorer mode in Edge, which will continue to be available until 2029 in some cases, and in others until 2023.
The definitive end of the browser comes for obvious reasons in the computer world: obsolescence. According to Microsoft, Edge (which was released in 2015) is much more secure, faster, and modern. The technology company insists that this tool “is capable of addressing a key issue: compatibility with older and more legacy websites and applications.” Hence, in practice, users will not be affected by the sad outcome of Explorer. Edge’s IE (Internet Explorer) mode will allow you to continue running everything that its predecessor was designed and programmed to do. The company assures that it is “a logical evolution after the launch of Windows 11” in 2021.
The company bids farewell to its emblematic search engine: “We cannot thank you enough for the support that Internet Explorer has had for all these years. Numerous people and organizations around the world have used it as a source of support as they learn, grow and build their businesses online. Microsoft Edge inherits that important responsibility.”
What happens if you try to access Internet Explorer today?
You may or may not be able to do this depending on the version of Windows you have installed and whether you are doing it from a personal computer or from one that is under the umbrella of a company. You can check here the versions of the operating system that will continue to run it for the time being.
In case the application is no longer available, you can browse normally in Microsoft Edge, where the same websites and platforms will run as in Explorer. As it is removed from the next updates of Windows 10 (the penultimate version of the system), users will be referred to Edge directly. This redirection process begins this June 15. Even though the Explorer logo is still present on your toolbar, when your device is in that phase, Edge will automatically open.
Once the redirect phase is complete, the app will no longer be available on all eligible devices via a Windows update.
Do I have to uninstall it?
No. The company warns that Edge’s Internet Explorer mode relies on Explorer in order to function, so uninstalling it would cause Internet Explorer mode to not run in Edge.
How do I activate Microsoft Edge’s Internet Explorer mode?
As the company explains, you must type in the Microsoft Edge address bar: edge://settings/defaultbrowser and then click Enter. Next, Allow sites to reload in Internet Explorer should be set to On. Finally, Edge must be restarted. To view a website in this mode, find the website you want to view, click the ellipses in the upper right corner of the browser window, and select Reload in Internet Explorer mode. If you are using Microsoft Edge in its version 92 or earlier, select More tools > Reload in Internet Explorer mode.
To return to browsing outside of Internet Explorer mode, click Quit (in the info bar at the top of the screen) or close the current tab and open a new tab in Edge.
Microsoft encourages users, if they still can’t access a website that works with Explorer, to ask their helpdesk for help.

You can easily do it here. Select the type of device you’re going to install it on, and in a matter of minutes, you’ll be able to start browsing with it. Of course, the company recommends checking if it has been downloaded, since it is likely to be so, even if it has not been repaired before.
What happens to companies that work with Explorer?
“The best way to prepare for the June 15 decommissioning is to remove Internet Explore from your organization” before the date, the company advised a few weeks ago. If the issue has not been addressed yet, Microsoft provides a guide to perform the migration.
