Giesecke+Devrient has decided to eliminate the use of virgin plastic in its payment card production by 2030. With this decision it becomes the first manufacturer in this industry to make this commitment to sustainability.
In this way, the company will replace virgin plastic with sustainable materials, including recycled materials and compostable or biodegradable industrial materials, which in addition to its direct positive impact on sustainability, is also a social statement and a powerful symbol of change.
“By eliminating virgin plastic from our payment cards, we are taking an important step to make this evolution a reality for banks, which find in G+D a trusted partner that protects their environmental reputation”, underlines Gabrielle Bugat, member of the Management Team and responsible for the business of Cards & Digital Payments of G+D.

G+D already supported the commitment to sustainability through a line of environmentally friendly payment cards, unique in the industry, in which the relevant layers of the card body are made from 100% sustainable materials. This advance is complemented by an eco-optimized card issuance process and a network of eco-innovative partners.
