‘The Simpson’, one of the best animation series for adultshas reaffirmed that Lisa’s future may be queer for a time. Now, a new episode set in the future shows that Lisa would not only end up with one female partner, but two.
Of course, episodes set in the future are not part of series canon (whatever canon means in a series that has been almost frozen in time for decades) and the girl Lisa has shown interest in boys in the past. Especially Nelson Muntz.
So, what’s going on? Is this something the series will make canon outside of these future episodes?
The man in charge of the series, Al Jeanhas revealed that Lisa being queer, in the series, it is a possibility. He commented exclusively for DigitalSpythat: “In my opinion, and this is just my opinion, that is definitely a possibility in Lisa’s life. She is open, and you know, someone who loves everything. Why not?“
Jean also teased that Lisa could be polyamorous, several years before she had two female partners on the show. At that time, she commented to Meter: “I see Lisa as President and possibly polyamorous.”
However, it doesn’t appear that the plans to include Lisa as queer in the canon are short-term. Instead, the series will explore various futures for the character.
Jean continued: “In another episode from the future, there will be her and Nelson. It is a future in which there will also be Simu Liu from ‘Sang Chi’ as Lisa’s husband.”
Lisa’s voice Yeardly Smithhad previously mentioned that he doesn’t think the Lisa of the present is going to have a story queerand it said: “I’m completely open to the possibilities of her exploring another kind of life…but, she’s only eight years old!”
Teasing what’s to come in the future of the series, and what we can expect, Jean added: “We have two episodes of Halloween this year: the usual ‘House of Terror’ and a version of ‘Item‘, the book by Stephen King, which lasts an entire episode. So there is a lot of exciting content.”
