Keys to using the cloud creatively

Currently, only 25% of companies migrate their advanced workloads to the cloud. This number is increasing, more and more companies move their computer systems to the cloud in order to increase their processing capacity, storage and scalability.

This is what Denodo’s Global Cloud Survey reveals, which emphasizes that, despite the data, most companies have not been able to take advantage of all the capabilities offered by cloud platforms, since they continue to design the structure of data locally instead of leveraging the cloud to simplify conventional data structures.

“Many companies still view cloud platforms as a substitute for on-premises, and continue to design cloud systems as if they were still running on-premises infrastructure. However, its possibilities are enormous”, affirms José Andrés García, responsible for Iberia and Latin America at Denodo.

Cloud, local file transfer

The number of files transferred in this way between organizations is high. They are sent in batches to suppliers, regulatory organizations, among others, which translates into extra work that must be done by both the issuing and receiving organizations.

The issuer must develop, maintain, manage and plan the programs involved in the creation and delivery of the files; and the receiver is responsible for developing, maintaining, managing and coordinating the programs involved in the processing and storage of the data.

In addition to these drawbacks, the information received by organizations has a high latency in data transmission, and the copied files must also be protected.

From file transfer to on-demand data

When cloud platforms are used, file transfer strategies can be replaced by much simpler on-demand data solutions. The data to be transmitted would be stored, for example, in a SQL database on a cloud platform, and the organizations would have the appropriate permissions to access that information instantly.

This data-on-demand approach means that information is stored once, but used many times. This would make the data easier to use and recipients would not have to copy it into their own systems. In addition, data latency would be reduced and it would not be necessary to develop specific programs to create and transmit files.

How to deal with scalability

The workload generated by all users of on-demand data can be highly unpredictable, with occasional spikes in activity, depending on the number of concurrent users, the number of queries, how complex they are, and when they are performed. they perform.

If an organization wants to offer on-demand information in local data centers, it must ensure that it has enough processing power to handle the entire workload involved, including unpredictable peak loads. This means that the company may need to install more technological muscle within the database to be able to deal with this overexertion of processing capacity, which can be irrational most of the time.

Under this scenario, it is essential to migrate data and systems to the cloud and choose the right software to offer automatic scalability and thus meet the data demand of companies.
