James Cameron has designed a titanic saga before which now seems to need a little space. When we have not yet returned to Pandora from the hand of the second installment of ‘Avatar’, a sequel that we will see in theaters on December 16, 2022, the manager starts suggesting that you need to delegate and that all the work involved in continuing with that story that started what is still the highest grossing film of all time; it’s too much if you also want to dedicate yourself to other projects. Thus ‘Avatar: The sense of water’ and the third installment have Cameron directing, something that may not happen in the face of future chapters of the franchise.
The filmmaker himself, in statements to Empire magazine, has given details about his plans for subsequent films, revealing that he considers the possibility of delegating to other professionals as far as management is concerned. “The ‘Avatar’ movies require undivided attention, and I’m also developing other things that are exciting to me. That’s why I think that over time, I don’t know if after the third or the fourth, I will want to pass the baton to a director that I trust to take over. and in this way I can focus on other things that interest me. Or maybe not. I dont know”.
Despite this, Cameron stresses that the world of ‘Avatar’ it is something very personal for himhighlighting in particular his enthusiasm for the next deliveries. “All I need to say about family, sustainability, climate, nature and other issues that are important to me in real life and in my film life, I can say it through this saga“which is why this director would have been more excited “as it went” the history. “The fourth movie is a firecracker, a cucumber, in fact, I really hope we get to do it. But it depends on the market. The third is already shot so it will be released independently [de si funciona o no la segunda]. I’m really hopeful that we get to do four and five because ultimately it’s a great story.”.
thinking about the box office
Although ‘Avatar’ continues to be unbeatable when it comes to box office receipts, Cameron worries about the sequel’s reception, hence, it only has the launch of the second and third installments (which have already been shot). The acclaimed filmmaker, who also signed films such as ‘Titanic’ or ‘Terminator’, does not assume that the public will turn to his proposal, but he hopes that the franchise will continue to expand with him as director or … not.
