Hayden Christensen’s return as Darth Vader in Disney+’s ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ is one of the series’ strong points (if not the most). After 15 years without embodying the character, the actor has put on the black suit again to face his counterpart, Master Kenobi (Ewan McGregor). However, it is inevitable to ask the following question: what will happen to Vader and Christensen after the series ends? The actor himself has conducted an interview for The Hollywood Reporter in which He has expressed his feelings on returning to the saga as Darth Vader, in addition to expressing the desire to continue with the character.
When Christensen is asked about his position regarding a possible Darth Vader prequel or series, the actor has replied: “Absolutely! To be able to do more with this character would be amazing.”.
“It has been a great honor for me to return to this character and feel the support of the fans”says the actor. We last saw Anakin Skywalker in ‘Star Wars: Episode III-Revenge of the Sith’, where he was the undisputed protagonist of the story, followed by Obi-Wan. The reunion of these two characters resulted in an emotional and epic combat that had already been advanced before the series came out. “I think Vader was shocked to see how out of touch Obi-Wan is with the Force at this point.”Christensen commented about this scene.
Vader vs. Skywalker
“I’m always thinking about the Anakin part of the character”says the actor. If we take into account his long journey on screen, we will realize that Darth Vader is a complex character, with nuances that go beyond the mask and a turbulent past. “I always see Anakin as a background to this character. Vader does everything he can to kill that part of him, but there always has to be a little bit of Anakin in there,” explains Christensen.
The new addition to the Star Wars universe has brought together what are probably the two most iconic Jedi in the saga (not to mention Yoda). It has also included the Inquisitors for the first time on screen in live action, led by the characters of Rupert Friend, Moses Ingram and Sung Kang. Rounding out the cast are Indira Varma, Kumail Nanjiani, Bonnie Piesse and O’Shea Jackson Jr., Simone Kessell, Vivien Lyra Blair and Grant Feely, in addition to the return of Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars and Jimmy Smits as Senator Organa.
There is still ‘Obi-Wan’ ahead. The penultimate episode will hit Disney+ on Wednesday, June 15, with the series finale a week later on the 22nd.
