With the recent premiere of ‘The House of the Dragon’ on HBO Max, the author of the original book saga, George R.R. Martinhas spoken about the huge franchise that has been created and about the development of the seasons of ‘Game of Thrones’.
We can never forget the extraordinary success of the television adaptation of the novels ‘Song of ice and fire‘. Nor is it easy to erase from memory such a bittersweet ending for many and that raised so much criticism against the creators of the series. The writer of this exciting universe, George RR Martin claimed to have been “out” of the last seasons of ‘Game of Thrones’, and now he returns to his discrepancies regarding the outcome of the series, assuring that he insisted on David Benoff Y DB Weiss (creators of TV fiction) in the production of more batches.
“I said it had to be 10 seasons at least. Maybe 12 or 13. I lost that request” said Martin, opining that the plot development of the series required a slower and longer process.
His opinion finally receded into the background in the global ensemble of the last two seasons, the fiction going down different paths than those published by the books. “I didn’t contribute to the last few seasons except, you know, having invented the world, the story, and all the characters.” He said. “I think I have more influence now (in ‘House of the Dragon’) than I did in the original series.RR Martin concluded.
In turn, he mentioned the unconventional process that had been followed to develop the recent spin off. To do this, five separate teams developed series concepts and brought them to Martin in Santa Fe, NM, USA. “It was like a playoff in the soccer league with me coaching all the teams. Emotionally it was a bit strange.”
Something curious is that finally HBO shelved one of the ideas after producing its pilot episodemade by naomi watts and that it had cost a total of almost 30 million dollars. Martin already seemed to have doubts about this concept before starting the recording, since it was set in “an ancient era that is only briefly described” in his works.
