There have been many memes left by the last edition of the Oscars, and there is one in particular that has gained a lot of strength and has been shared thousands of times on social networks: that of shocked Nicole Kidman. The image in question it has been identified as a reaction to Will Smith’s slap in the face of Chris Rock during the ceremony. However, this is not true.

As confirmed by Vulture, the image of a surprised Kidman was taken hours before the controversial incident, during the moments prior to the start of the ceremony that are not televised. To be more exact, the image circulated from 7:34 p.m. local time, that is, 26 minutes before the gala began. In this way, the hoax is denied, although the photo has taken on a life of its own from so many times that it has been spread and will forever be associated with the night of the smack.
Plus, we already know what exactly Kidman was reacting to at the time. The same medium has interviewed the Los Angeles Times photographer who took the image, Myung Chun, who has explained what caused that reaction: “Apparently she was that excited to see Jessica Chastain in the room. Kidman put her arms up and waved.”. So the winner of the Oscar for Best Actress for ‘Tammy Faye’s eyes’ would have been responsible for that expression on the actress’s faceand not the incident with Will Smith.
Fake
It is not the only meme associated with the incident that is not real. This collage with photos of the reactions of celebrities also has nothing to do with what happened. Much of the photos were taken when by mistake ‘The City of Stars: La La Land’ was named Best Film in the 2017 editionto later clarify it and give the statuette to ‘Moonlight’, which is popularly known as the oscargatewhose effects can still be felt in the cinephile community.

Please remember the look on Ryan Gosling’s face when ‘LA LA LAND’ was snatched the Oscar for Best Picture with a last-minute blunder. pic.twitter.com/dJ6iwyhadt

Today marks 5 years since they were wrong and said that “La La Land” had won the Oscar, when in fact it was not. And reactions are all that’s right pic.twitter.com/tZn1oC3kQM
