Since Hugh Jackman said goodbye to Wolverine in 2017 with ‘Logan’, after almost two decades in the role, and especially since the purchase of Fox by Disney in 2019, there has been much speculation about who could be the actor in succeed him as the iconic X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And interestingly, one of the names that have sounded the loudest is that of Daniel Radcliffeactor known for bringing Harry Potter to life on film.
Radcliffe is on the list of many Marvel fans who defend him as the ideal candidate for the role, among other things because of his height (closer to that of the comics version) and his versatility as an actor. In fact, the rumor has become so strong that Radcliffe himself has had to deny it on several occasions. The last one took place at the SXSW festival, during the premiere of his new film, ‘The Lost City’. Speaking to ComicBook.com, Radcliffe has expressed his thanks to fans for suggesting him as a candidate, but denies that it will happen (at least for now):
“A lot of times people come up to me and say, ‘Hey man, I heard the Wolverine news, it’s great.’ And I don’t know about that.”says Radcliffe. “I appreciate that someone clearly thought ‘Wolverine is short in the comics, so a short guy should do it. But I don’t see myself… I don’t see them moving from Hugh Jackman to me. But who knows? Prove me wrong Marvel“.

Radcliffe has said on several occasions that he does not see himself as Wolverine, despite the insistence of fans who continue to propose him for the role and their admiration for the X-Men saga. However, with these latest statements, It seems that the actor does not completely rule out the possibility, if Marvel is willing to pose that challenge. Other names that have sounded insistently are those of Taron Egerton and Scott Eastwood, but for now we do not know who will be the replacement for Jackman. Rumors suggest that we could find out very soon, in ‘Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness’, so we just have to wait.
What Kevin Feige told us
In 2019 we had the honor of interviewing the boss of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, on the occasion of the premiere of ‘Spider-Man: Far from home’, and already we asked about him fan casting of Radcliffe as Wolverine, which was starting to gain momentum at the time.
Feige assured us that he had never heard of it, but producer Eric Hauserman Carroll, who was with him in the interview, revealed that “Daniel is definitely someone we’ve talked about”to which Feige added that the actor had paid them a visit at Marvel (“He has come… We have met him”) and that he understood the rumours, because it is “A great actor”. It’s clear that Marvel is a fan of Radcliffe, so who knows, Whether it’s like Logan or not, maybe we’ll see him one day in the UCM.
