Cloud sovereignty is increasingly a priority for organizations looking for secure, innovative and scalable solutions to manage their data. And it is that, 43% worldwide defend it as the maintenance of their data within their preferred jurisdiction.
This is revealed in the Capgemini Research Institute report, “The Path to Cloud Sovereignty: Assessing the Cloud’s Potential to Drive Transformation and Build Trust.”
“In our current environment, IT and supply chain sovereignty has become truly strategic. For companies that are still reluctant to take advantage of the obvious benefits of the Cloud, sovereignty is a way to get there,” says Marc Reinhardt, Head of Public Sector at Capgemini.
Cloud sovereignty for data
According to the report, companies have some concerns about using the public cloud as the core of digital transformation projects:
- 69% of organizations cite potential exposure to extraterritorial law in a cloud environment
- 68% lack of transparency and control over what is done with their data in the Cloud
- 67% cite operational reliance on vendors based outside of their region’s jurisdiction
A large majority of companies around the world believe they will adopt cloud sovereignty to ensure regulatory compliance (71%) or to introduce controls and transparency over their data (67%), while ensuring protection against access to extraterritorial data (65%) ranks third.
Companies desperate to locate data
On the other hand, when selecting a Cloud provider, the four key factors that companies mainly focus on are: identity, access management and encryption; the isolation of your sensitive data in the Cloud; cost competitiveness and having local/regional data centers.
Collaboration and ecosystems
The report also indicates that, while meeting the highest regulatory and data security demands, organizations are seeking cloud sovereignty to enable their companies to realize the benefits of the cloud, including better collaboration, increased data sharing , increased confidence and opportunities for innovation.
60% of companies believe that cloud sovereignty will make it easier to share data with partners in their trusted ecosystem, and 42% of executives surveyed believe that a trusted interoperable cloud service can help them scale new technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet of things (IoT).
