With Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen back in the ‘Star Wars’ universe thanks to ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’, many are wondering if we’ll also see Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn in the Disney+ series. In a recent interview with the actor, Neeson fueled those rumors by telling us exclusively about a secret cameo that he had filmed last year, and that made us think that it could be his return to the galactic saga. Nevertheless, we already know what series it is and it is not ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’, but something completely different.
On Tuesday, April 12, ‘Derry Girls’ returned to television, a successful comedy about a group of teenagers in Ireland in the 90s that has just released its third and final season in the United Kingdom (it will arrive later in Spain through Netflix), three years after the previous installment. Well, in the first episode of the season, the series surprised the audience with an explosive cameo: yes, you guessed it, Liam Neeson.
The popular Irish actor known among many other things for ‘Schindler’s List’ and the ‘Revenge’ saga, passes through the town of Derry putting himself in the shoes of a police officer who is in charge of interrogating the protagonists about a robbery that has taken place in the institute. Channel 4, the network where the series was originally broadcast, has published the complete funny scene on its social networks (yes, in English), which you can see below.

Following the episode’s airing, series creator Lisa McGee took to Twitter to discuss the all-star cameo and how they managed to keep it a secret.
Thanks for watching lads! Our code name for Liam during the shoot was ‘the big fella’ arguably quite an easily cracked code. What an honor to have him in our wee show. Our very own Northern Star

“Thanks for watching the episode folks! Our code name for Liam during the shoot was ‘the big guy’, possibly a fairly easy code to crack. What an honor to have him on our show. Our very own North Star.”.
Born in Northern Ireland, Neeson is one of the proudest of his country and having him in the series is without a doubt a hoot. Too bad it’s the last season, but with Neeson as godfather, it is clear that he has set out to say goodbye in a big way.
But we don’t lose hope
Now, although the premiere of ‘Derry Girls’ has disproved our theory that the secret cameo Neeson was referring to was for ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’, That’s not to say the door is closed to a ‘Star Wars’ return.far from it.
In fact, if we look at the chronology of the saga, it would make a lot of sense to see Qui-Gon Jinn again, the Master of Kenobi when he was a Padawan. At the end of ‘Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’ Yoda uttered some words that seemed to herald a return of the character to Obi-Wan’s life. “In your loneliness on Tatooine I want you to receive training. An old friend has well learned the path of immortality. One who has returned from the Averno of the Force. Your former Master”. With which, and taking into account that ‘The Mandalorian’ brought us back to Luke Skywalker himself (Mark Hamill), It would be very strange if Lucasfilm did not have that dreamed reunion between Master and Padawan prepared for us..
We’ll find out soon, because ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ premieres May 27 on Disney+.
