Amber Heard loses her motion to dismiss Johnny Depp’s lawsuit

The trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard continues. After more than three weeks, Johnny Depp has concluded his testimony and his team has already finished questioning the witnesses, so Heard’s defense presentation has been given. Now, the legal team of the actress has presented a motion to dismiss Depp’s lawsuit on the grounds that insufficient evidence had been presented. However, the judge dismissed it. which means that we still have a long trial ahead of us.

The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actor sued his ex-wife for defamation following an article published in The Washington Post. To be more specific, Depp’s legal team pointed out three fragments of the text as defamatory (via Variety), one of them being the title of the text: “Amber Heard: I spoke out against sexual violence and faced the anger of our culture. That has to change” (“Amber Heard: I spoke up against sexual violence – and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change”).

Although the judge would need more evidence as to whether or not the owner’s liability could be directly attributed to Heardshe did dismiss the defense petition for the other two excerpts in which she described herself as “a public figure representing domestic violence” and, on the other hand, referred to “how institutions protect men accused of abuse”. Now it’s time for the defense presentation and the ‘Aquaman’ actress is expected to take the stand this Wednesday, May 4.

On the other hand, a former Depp agent who testified at the trial claimed that the actor would have lost his role as Jack Sparrow in Disney’s ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ saga because of Heard’s accusations, which would have caused a loss of several million dollars for Depp.

Heard’s team now has the ball in their court. Yesterday, Tuesday, May 3, Dr. Dawn Hughes took the stand and spoke of the abuse that existed within the relationship of the two actors was not mutual, but unilateral. That is, he claimed that it was only Heard who suffered this abuse by Depp.

According to Variety, the doctor stated that Heard would have suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), quite the opposite of what the psychologist Shannon Curry declared in her testimony during the presentation of the indictment. Hughes, specializing in forensic psychology and clinical psychology, commented that Heard showed “clear traumatic effects” and that the cause of these effects was the “marital violence exercised by Mr. Depp”.
