‘The Batman’: A fan edits the deleted scene so we can see the full face of the Joker

‘The Batman’, the new DC superhero movie directed by Matt Reeves is a dark movie in every way. Not only does it present us with the most tortured incarnation of Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson), it seems that photography is the most sinister and gothic that the camera allows. To make matters worse, when the director revealed the deleted scene in which the Joker of this universe was introduced, the villain appeared behind a glass that did not allow to see a clear image or in very short shots of his scarred face. Now, a fan of the film with tremendous editing skills has taken those frames, stitched them together, brightened them up, and left us with a much clearer image of the face of Barry Keoghan’s Clown Prince of Crime:

Without this scene included in the final footage, the only thing we saw on screen of the Joker was a small scene that he shared with Paul Dano’s Enigma, when he ended up in the Arkham psychiatric hospital and in which we practically only heard his laugh. Regarding the creation of the character, the director explained that his main source of inspiration was the film ‘The Man Who Laughs’, from 1928, but they also used David Lynch’s ‘The Elephant Man’ concept when designing the makeup and prosthetics with Mike Marino: “I wanted to create a version of him that was different, but went back to the roots. […] Maybe there’s something going on with him other than he fell into a tank of chemicals or what Christopher Nolan did, where you don’t know where the scars come from. What if it’s something he’s had since he was born and he has a congenital disease that prevents him from stopping smiling?

The scene itself was a surprise to fans of the film who they played with Enigma through the website rataalada.com, although later she was released for everything in the world. In it we see how Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne is going to talk to the Joker to help him find out who is behind the serial killer who is killing politicians and corrupt police officers in Gotham, very ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ vibe. What we don’t really know is what implications this scene has on the sequels that the film may have or if Keoghan will be the main villain in any of the other productions of the new Batman universe.
