Interview with Verónica Echegui for ‘Doctor García’s patients’

The eternal legacy of Almudena Grandes had reached the cinema with titles like ‘Malena is a name of tango’, ‘The ages of lulu’, ‘Cardboard castles’ or ‘The difficult airs’. However, never before had one of her novels been adapted for television. and the first was ‘Doctor Garcia’s patients’, belonging to the series Episodes of an Interminable War. Doctor García believes that he will never see him again, but in September 1946, Manuel returns from exile with a secret and dangerous mission. The republican diplomat intends to infiltrate a clandestine organization, the network of evasion of war criminals and fugitives from the Third Reich that a German and Spanish woman, Nazi and Phalangist, named Clara Stauffer directs from the neighborhood of Argüelles. While Dr. García allows himself to be recruited by him, another Spaniard crosses the fate of the two friends: Adrián Gallardo Ortega (Jon Olivares). Verónica also assures that filming this series, directed by Joan Noguera (‘Isabel’, ‘Sin identidad’, ‘Mercado central’) and written by José Luis Martín (‘Isabel’), is being a master class: “I had not known the history of the Civil War through the eyes of Almudena Grandes, and it is much easier.”
