‘Love letters don’t exist’: the exclusive Poster

Jonas is a forty-something Parisian who is still madly in love with his ex, Léa. After a drunken night, he knocks on her door to confess his feelings for her, but she turns him down. Disgusted, he ends up in the coffee shop below her house and begins to write her a love letter, forgetting everything he had to do that day. With the help of a funny waiter and some neighbors from the neighborhood, Jonas will face his past relationships, an uncertain future and above all, himself. What begins as a crucial attempt to recover his girlfriend, will become a reflection on his life.

‘Love letters don’t exist’ deals with a sentimental breakup and everything that surrounds the fact of writing that letter, which is not known if it will be of any use. However, it is an act of redemption for the one who writes it.

The director of ‘The time of lovers’, Jerome Bonnell, uses the excuse of this letter to create the plot of his latest film around it: ‘Letters of love do not exist, is a comedy with clearly French denomination of origin but that avoids Parisian clichés and clichés about love since the male perspective. A film full of irony and large doses of reality, the same one that hits us and we still don’t see it even when we are face to face.

With that letter, the protagonist of the story is bound to do some introspection and an exercise in empathy during an intense day. From that cafeteria where he seems to forget about his obligations, he exposes and explores his fears. Not only his own: also those of others, in addition to knowing other perspectives from which to see the future and love.

“Until then I had hidden behind female characters, which was a nice way for me to feel freer and more protected.“, explains the director. “To tell the story of a man I had to see myself more exposed, and the time had come. This was the starting point. My desires to do something more reasonable and obvious quickly came to the fore: to portray a character through a single day in his life, to make a light film, to shoot a face and a body, determined but exhausted, extravagant but slowed down. With ‘The Love Letter’ -its original title- I wanted to create a simple story, that of someone who can no longer get up from his chair and who does not stop writing. Actors Gregory Montel (‘Perfumes’, ‘Longing for life’), Anais Demouster (‘A New Friend’, ‘Alice’s Advice’) and Gregory Gadebois (‘Everything went well’, ‘Delicious’, ‘The officer and the spy’), star in this sitcom that talks about how miserable human behavior can become when faced with the most universal feeling: love ?.

The film will hit theaters on April 8, 2022.
