The Japanese company has kept the eShop closed for a few days after suspending payments in rubles.
Nintendo confirmed a few hours ago cessation of exports of all its products to Russia “for a probable future”, justifying his decision in the volatility around the logistics of shipping and distribution of physical goods that affects the Russian market these days, heavily punished by the sanctions of Europe and the US before the invasion of Ukraine that began two weeks ago by Russian troops.
In statements to EFE collected by RTVE, a Nintendo spokesman has assured that the stocks that are currently stored will be sold. On the other hand, the Nintendo eShop in Russia is currently undergoing maintenance after the suspension of transactions in Russian rubles by the payment provider. It is unknown when it will be operational again, if it takes that step.
It is not the only action taken these days by Nintendo due to the war in Ukraine. In this sense, yesterday it was learned of a delay in the release date of Advance Wars 1 + 2: Re-Boot Camp, where two armies inspired by the Cold War fight each other. As it happens, the original Game Boy Advance releases were already postponed 20 years ago for another sadly historic event.
Nintendo joins the bulk of large companies in the sector such as PlayStation, Ubisoft, EA, Take-Two Interactive, Microsoft or Warner Bros. Games that in recent days have announced their withdrawal from the Russian market without offering more details about their return. Outside the sector, in addition, film production companies or technological giants have also ceased their services in Russia and Belarus due to the situation in Ukraine.
