Ryan Coogler, director of ‘Black Panther’ and its sequel, ‘Wakanda Forever’, has been involved in a nasty incident. The filmmaker has ended up arrested by the police for being mistaken for a thief when he was about to withdraw money from a Bank of America branch located in Atlanta.
The mishap has been confirmed by Coogler to Variety, which includes the following statements: “This situation should never have happened. However, Bank of America has worked with me and addressed the situation to my satisfaction, so move on.”
As explained by TMZ based on the police report, the mishap took place in January. In the images rescued by the medium, Coogler, wearing a beanie, dark sunglasses and a mask, went to the counter to hand the cashier a cash withdrawal slip with a note written on the back.: “I would like to withdraw $12,000 in cash from my checking account. Please count the money elsewhere. I would like to be discreet”said the message.
It seems that the employee misunderstood Coogler’s intentions. since he decided to call the police for an attempted robbery and notify his boss. In addition, some kind of alarm was also triggered. Upon arrival, the agents arrested the director along with two people who were waiting for him. It has also been reported that the official was a pregnant black woman.
For his part, a bank spokesman wanted to publicly apologize to Coogler: “We deeply regret that this incident occurred. It should never have happened and we have apologized to Mr. Coogler“.
