The digitization process has become an essential requirement for any company. CIOs do not stop insisting on the need to further drive digital transformation processes. And yet… there is still a long way to go, according to the ‘Digital Adaptation Report 2022’ carried out by IEBS Digital School, 59.5% of companies have started the digitization process, 25.4% consider that their company it is highly digitized and, in contrast, 15.1% say they have not started the digital transformation. Consequently, the study concludes that more than 70% of companies do not have optimal levels and, therefore, should invest in this process.
Digitization is a process that can be difficult for all those organizations unfamiliar with the use of technology
Although it is true that large corporations are aware of the need to apply technology to be more competitive, SMEs are having more difficulties in starting this process. To reverse this situation, the Government has developed the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, a strategy that channels the economic resources provided by the European Union and that will allocate 28% of the investments to the digital transition of economic infrastructures. This strategy contemplates the Digital Kit program, an initiative aimed exclusively at the digitalization of small and medium-sized companies.
4 elements to start the digitization process
The digital transformation of a business is a process that can be difficult for all those organizations unfamiliar with the use of technology. The problem is that many times, organizations do not know where to start the digitization process. According to ANOVO, there are four basic elements to start any digitization process:
-
Develop a digital transformation plan. To start the digitization process, it is necessary to assess the starting point of the company and analyze the point of digitization that is to be achieved. To do this, it is advisable to take into account the level of digitization, both of the competition and of the sector in which it operates as a whole, and draw up a roadmap to establish the steps to follow.
-
Incorporate tech talent. The incorporation of digital talent is essential in digital transformation. Specialized profiles will add value to the company and help make the transition more organized and effective.
-
Implement digital tools. The first step for the digitization of a company is to identify what type of digital tools are most useful for the business. If the level of digitization is very low, a very good first step is to bet on data storage tools, promote presence in the digital ecosystem (web page or RR.SS.) and incorporate management tools aimed at issues such as project tracking or task control.
-
Involve the staff in the transition. Human capital plays a fundamental role in digital transformation and must be informed of all the changes that are going to take place in the business. In addition, it is necessary to make the workforce aware of the importance they have in this transformation and it is recommended to invest in training and updating skills in order to facilitate their process of adapting to the new tools.
